9 Disciplines of CQUPT Are Listed in “China’s Best Disciplinary Rankings” in 2019
On October 30th, 2019, Global Ranking of Academic Subject officially released the 2019 “Best Discipline Rankings in China”. Nine disciplinesof CQUPT including Information and Communication Engineering, Computer Science and Technology, Marxist Theory, Electronic Science and Technology, Control Science and Engineering, Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering,Mathematics, Management Science and Engineering are on the list, entering the top 50% of China, of which Information and Communication Engineering, andComputer Science and Technology are among the top 20% of China.
The index system for the ranking of the best disciplines in China by Global Ranking of Academic Subject consists of more than 30 measurement indicators embedded in the dynamic monitoring system for the development of the disciplines developed byGlobal Ranking of Academic Subject. These indicators are all key ones closely monitored in the daily management of the discipline construction department of universities, the possession of the scarce resources of the subject by the university, representing the occupation of scarce resources of the subject. Global Ranking of Academic Subject divides these more than 30 indicators into more than 10 indicator dimensions to calculate scores, and then summarizes them into 5 indicators categories including high-end talents, scientific research projects, award-winning achievements, academic papers, and talent training. Finally, the total scores of the discipline points are obtained. All the data comes from third-party data sources, such as Ministry of Education, Ministry of Science and Technology, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and International and Domestic Literature Databases. After standardized data cleaning and discipline classification processes developed byGlobal Ranking of Academic Subject, data of various indicatorsof all disciplines is uniformly obtained.
The list released by China’s Best Discipline Rankings includes 96 first-level disciplines, involving 4,986 disciplines from 460 universities. Different disciplines have different cardinal points, and the degree of the competition is also different. The ranking of the best disciplines in China introduces the concept of percentiles. In addition to the absolute ranking, the relative position of each subject in the discipline is also given.
