CQUPT Holds Exchange and Reporting Conference on Students Studying Abroad 2018

CQUPT News (provided by Office of International Cooperation and Exchanges, and edited by Ao Yongchun)On the afternoon of November 30, CQUPT’s Exchange and Reporting Conference on Students Studying Abroad 2018 was successfully held in Science and Technology Hall. President Li Lin attended the conference and delivered a speech. Leaders of the relevant functional organizations, leaders in charge of student work in each school, all instructors, and representatives of class tutors, undergraduates and postgraduates were also present at the conference.

At the conference, Meng Siyi from School of Media and Arts who participated in the Summer Paid Internship Program in the United States, Yu Haosen from International College who participated in the Summer Exchange Program of Northern Arizona University, and Xia Yitong from School of Foreign Languages who participated in the National Public Project, Wu Yangbo from School of Communication and Information Engineering who participated in the Exchange Program of Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, Gu Yan from School of Automation, and Jiang Meiqiu from School of Optoelectronic Engineering gave wonderful reports and shared their experiences and gains in their study and exchange abroad respectively. Shi Zeping, an instructor from School of Economics and Management, was the leader of North Arizona University Exchange Program in theUnited Statesin the summer of 2018. She explained her understanding of the participation in international cooperation and communication and coping with cross-cultural challenges from a teacher’s perspective and vision. The audience thundered from time to time and the atmosphere was warm.

At the subsequent Awarding Ceremony, Mr. Lei Ting, minister of China-US International Education and Cultural Exchange, awarded CQUPT as “Student Cross-border Internship and Training Center”.

After the reports of representatives of teachers and students, President Li Lin pointed out in his speech that the Report of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China had put forward new requirements and new tasks for the training of international talents of China’s higher education in the new era; international exchanges and cooperation had become the fifth major function of universities after talent training, scientific research, social service, and cultural inheritance and innovation; cultivating high-quality international talents was an important task that must be tackled in higher education in the new era, and it was also an important goal of reform and innovation of talent training in CQUPT; in recent years, CQUPT had taken a series of substantive measures to promote related works. Li Lin said that he was very happy to see that in recent years more than 1,500 students had participated in various international exchange projects; through the projects, students had broadened their horizons, improved their cross-cultural communication abilities, and enhanced their comprehensive quality. He also earnestly hoped that students would strive to become highly qualified talents with broad horizons, high morality and strong patriotism, and active on the international stage.

CQUPT has always been open, taking international training of students and the promotion of international flow of students as important measures to reform the mode of talent training and to improve the level of internationalized university running. Up to 2018, CQUPT had established cooperative partnership with more than 50 foreign universities, and carried out 52 exchange projects at various levels. In the past three years, the number of students having participated in international cooperative exchange projects had reached more than 1,200.
