CQUPT Wins Championship in China Robowork Competition and International Open 2018
From April 25 to 29, 2018, hosted by Teaching Steering Committee on Innovative Methods of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education, and co-organized by Professional Committee on Cognitive Systems and Information Processing of Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence and Professional Committee of Service Robotics of China Productivity Promotion Center of Ministry of Science and Technology, China Robowork Competition and International Open 2018 was held in China University of Geosciences (Wuhan). 2,591 teachers and 5186 students from 1,858 teams of 355 colleges and universities from 29 provinces and autonomous regions of China participated in 18 major competitions such as robot engineering innovation, artificial intelligence, bipedal walking and so on.
A total of 19 teams sent by School of Advanced Manufacturing Engineering and School of Automation of our university won 9 first prizes, 4 second prizes, 4 third prizes, and 2 winning prizes. The number and level of the awards have refreshed the best results of our university since the establishment of the event in 2011.
In the “Single Motor Race Competition of Bipedal Walking Project”, “DONT” project completed by Xiong Jingfeng and other students and supervised by Xu Xiaodong, a teacher from School of Advanced Manufacturing Engineering, finished the entire competition with a score of 1 minute and 27 seconds and won the first prize and the championship, defeating 48 teams. The “Jingzhe” project completed by He Renzhi and other students and supervised by Wei Bo, a teacher from School of Advanced Manufacturing Engineering, won the first prize and second runner-up in “Dexterous Hands Competition of Artificial Intelligence Project”. Besides, teams from School of Advanced Manufacturing Engineering won 6 first prizes in “Exoskeletons Competition of Artificial Intelligence Project”, “Narrow Feet Competition of Bipedal Walking Project”, “Single Motor Race Group of Bipedal Walking Project” and “Cross Feet Competition of Bipedal Walking Project”; a teams from School of Automation won first prize in “Narrow Feet Group of Bipedal Walking Project”.
Based on the fundamental of setting high moral values and cultivating talents, and on the goal of improving the quality of talent development, School of Advanced Manufacturing Engineering and School of Automation focus on conducting extracurricular activities with innovation and entrepreneurship education and students’ professional laboratories as the main contents to fully tap students’ sense of innovation and train their creativity in practice. Of them, School of Advanced Manufacturing Engineering has adopted a combination of lessons and competitions to integrate the Robowork competition into the talent training program. This time a total of 56 teams were organized, and more than 200 students participated in the competition, the participation rate exceeding 25%. With the support of “Huawei Seed Project” competitions on campus were kicked off, and finally 15 teams were selected to participate in the national competition, all of which won prizes.
