An Unveiling Ceremony for the Big Data Intelligence Research Institute Is Held in CQUPT

An unveiling ceremony for the Big Data Intelligence Research Institute was held at Academic Lecture Hall in Shaw Building on the morning of September 22. As one of the first batch of research and development institutes on “Big Data Intelligence” theories and technologies in Chongqing, the institute will focus on innovative application and gather high-quality innovation-driven talent teams. It will work to upgrade and restructure traditional industries and pillar industries so as to move ahead with the intelligent progress in West China in a new artificial intelligence way of combing data-driven and knowledge-based technologies.

Deputy Director Deng Rui of Chongqing Municipal Education Commission, Deputy Secretary Xu Qing of Chongqing Municipal Science & Technology Commission, Director YanZhiqing of the Big Data Bureau of Chongqing Economic and Information Technology Commission, President Li Lin and Vice President Xu Guanghong were present in the event. The ceremony was hosted by Xu Guanghong.

President Li Lin claimed in his speech that the foundation of the institute would help leverage the role of CQUPT in solving the common and key problems on economic and social development facing the country and Chongqing, step up efforts to apply the latest scientific outcomes into practice, and cultivate high-quality professional personnel in order to serve China’s strategic needs and the local development. President Li hoped that the relevant parties would make joint efforts to channel more resources into the platform, thus supporting advanced scientific research and industrial development and service, and further upgrading a talents training mode in CQUPT.

Chang Jiang Scholar Wang Guoyin, Dean of the Big Data Intelligence Research Institute, contended that the institute would strive to lead the world in one or two research fields, and that it was about to upgrade and restructure Chongqing’s traditional industries and pillar industries by using key technologies including intelligent information technology and big data-driven technology, so as to move ahead with the intelligent progress in West China.

Yan Zhiqiang, Director of the Big Data Bureau of Chongqing Economic and Information Technology Commission, hoped that the institute would integrate various quality resources and deliver more real benefits to the local economic development and information industry, and that the institute should dedicate to developing Chongqing into a smart city and make progress in Internet Plus, cloud computing, big data and intelligent industries. He expected that the institute would help China’s information industry achieve more fruitful outcomes in industrial, scientific, technological and academic fields, so as to present an excellent performance to the 19th CPC National Congress.

All attendees witnessed Deputy Director Deng Rui of Chongqing Municipal Education Commission and President Li Lin jointly unveiling the nameplate for the institute.

Leaders and experts from some cooperation units including China General Technology Research Institute, Tsinghua University, Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan University, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Beijing Jiaotong University, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Xidian University, Institute of Software of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Institute of Information Engineering of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing Institute of Electronic Technology and Application and Qihu 360 Group, as well as officers from Chongqing Municipal Education Commission, Chongqing Municipal Science & Technology Commission, and Chongqing Economic and Information Technology Commission attended the unveiling ceremony.
