The Third China College Students “Internet Plus” Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition in Chongqing (The Finals) was held in Yifu Science and Technology Building on July 11th. 120 projects from 36 colleges competed for the gold medal, of which excellent ones will be granted the qualification for the national competition. The number of CQUPT students and projects attending the competition reached 3,373 and 502 respectively, which was more than three times larger in number than the 2nd one. The ratio of students attending the competition exceeds 15% of the total students and over 20 teams have ushered in the finals.
On that day, we were honorable enough to have Secretary of CQUPT Party Committee Fang Haiyang, President Li Lin, Vice Secretary You Minhui and Vice Presidents Lin Jinchao and Liu Yanbin on the spot, and they visited projects and extending their regards to the teams.
The Third China College Students “Internet Plus” Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition was held under the joint efforts of Ministry of Education, Office of the Central leading Group for Cyberspace Affairs, National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People’s Republic of China (MIIT), Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security of the People’s Republic of China (MOHRSS), State Intellectual Property Office of the People’s Republic of China (SIPO), Chinese Academy of Science (CAS), Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), the Chinese Community of Youth League (CCYL) and the People’s Government of Shanxi Province. The competition system had three levels, namely preliminary was held in school, quarter-finals in municipal city and national finals. The municipal-level competition, held in Chongqing and hosted by Chongqing Municipal Education Commission and undertook by CQUPT, had such categories as creative groups, newly-established groups, growing groups, and job-oriented groups. The projects covered seven fields of “internet plus”, modern agriculture, IT services, manufacturing industries, etc.. Starting from March, the competition had attracted more than 32,000 participants from 66 colleges and the number of projects went beyond 7,000, of which 120 were chosen for the finals after each college’s recommendation and experts’ online selection.
Apart from Director Jiang Houqiang and Vice Director Wu Lan of the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Education, those who graced the competition included guests from various colleges, tutors, teams and volunteers, totaling 1000 people. Before the enclosed defense, the 120 teams were divided into four groups to show the achievements that Chongqing has gained in innovation and business start-ups. All the teams should show the level of their projects and the essence of innovation in five minutes through video displaying and site defensing. The contestants won recognition from judges owing to their calm performance, clear thinking, fluent expressions and accurate timekeeping ability.
In the process of organizing the competition CQUPT embarked on four aspects: first, with an intention to know requirements and fulfill responsibilities, we established a committee so that each department and institution can work in coordination to accomplish their due tasks; second, we selected excellent projects by integrating professional education, R&D, social practice and industry-university-research collaboration as a whole; third, we tried to improve the quality of the projects by stepping up efforts in innovation and entrepreneurship; fourth, in order to get more students and teachers involved in the competition, we tried every possible means to publicize the competition to increase its participation degree. Abiding by the principle of “giving play to innovation, entrepreneurship and education in the process of talent cultivation”, CQUPT has been working with tireless dedication to deepen the reform of innovation, entrepreneurship and education, to promote the building of educational system, and to strive to achieve concrete benefits in these fields.
