Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications (CQUPT), founded in 1950, is a post-and-telecommucation university that has been blue-printed and given priority to by the State. CQUPT has grown into a prominent university and enjoys a good reputation for its remarkable contributions in the field of information industry both within and outside China.
The university is located in the heart of Chongqing Nanshan Scenic area, covering an area of 626 acres. CQUPT hosts 16 schools, offering 51 undergraduate programs, 27 graduate programs, and 2 Ph.D. programs. There are over 1,700 faculty memebers and more than 23,000 students. Within 65 years, CQUPT has cultivated over 90,000 specialists in a variety of fields, and is recognized as the Cradle of Information Technology Specialists.
CQUPT has won national technology innovation awards in the field of information industry and is the national model base of advanced technology industrialization. Focusing on the research and applications of telecommunications, computer science and automatic control, the university has achieved remarkable accomplishments. The university has successfully developed the first 24-ways and 30/32-ways pulse code machine under ITU standards, and also 120-ways multiplexing equipment with its supporting instrument. CQUPT has also participated in the establishment of the third generation mobile communication international standard, and designed the world's first TD-SCDMA baseband chip, and established the EPA international standard with the first independent intellectual rights in the field of Chinese industry automation, and developed the first core chip of Internet of Things in the world. The university now is honored as one of the Birthplace of Digital Communication in China.
CQUPT has built well-established relationships with over 70 overseas universities and Institutions from countries such as the U.S.A., the U.K., Germany, Russia and Korea, etc. In these partners CQUPT is running Dual-degree Programs with Northern Arizona University, State University of New York at Albany and Brunel University London, and co-building research centers with University of Southampton, University of Alberta and Inha University, and carrying out industrial talent training with Cisco and Hp Ltd, etc. CQUPT admits international students supported by Chinese Government Scholarship, Chongqing Municipal Mayor Scholarship, President Scholarship, and self-funding International students. Overseas students are warmly welcome to CQUPT to experience Chinese culture, and to obtain professional knowledge from all kinds of courses. The university now hosts over 550 international students. CQUPT also fully supports its students to go abroad for further studies and exchanges, and positively sets up platforms for their participation in international cooperation and exchanges, hoping that all students during their schooling have chances to exchange abroad. So far the university has had 3 Sino-foreign cooperation education programs, and carried out over 40 other projects such as joint training, interschool exchange, social practice, scientific exchange, degree-pursuing, etc. CQUPT positively promotes the internationalization of its faculty and encourages its faculty to study or be trained abroad. It has also successfully convened many high level academic conferences and attracted world statesmen, business elites, eminent scholars and experts to lecture or visit. Every year more than 70 long-term and short-term foreign experts carry out their professional teaching and research work in the university.
